We first worked with Patty and Kalara in 2020, right when it felt like everyone in the Bay Area was trying to move at the same time. We had decided to sell our home in San Rafael and look for property up in Sonoma County, something with land and room to breathe. Selling one house and buying another at the same time, in that market, was honestly a little terrifying. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions we have made as a family, and none of it would have happened without Patty and Kalara!
Let’s start with the sale. Patty walked through our San Rafael house and immediately knew what needed to happen, acting as an expert staging designer, broker and master negotiator throughout the transaction. She told us what to fix, what to leave alone, how to decorate it, how to present it and where to price it. Kalara then stepped in to partner with us on all of the hard work, from staging and decor to showings and open houses. She worked tirelessly to make sure the plan was perfectly executed. When the offers came in, Patty and Kalara negotiated like their own money was on the line. Watching Patty negotiate is like watching an expert game of chess! We closed in less than 30 days in a very clean transaction, well over asking. In just over two months from start to finish, they had added hundreds of thousands of dollars to our sale. It was far more than we would have gotten on our own, more than we thought was possible going in, and they made the process fun and joyful throughout.
The purchase was a different animal. We weren’t looking for a typical house. We wanted acreage, and eventually we fell in love with a twelve-acre property in Petaluma with two homes on it. Rural property comes with a whole set of questions that most buyers (us included) have no idea how to ask. Patty and Kalara knew what to look for and who to call, and they caught things we never would have caught. They fought just as hard for us on the purchase side, and we closed on phenomenal terms. Looking back now, the sale and purchase together were one of the best moves we have made as a family, and they have set us up financially for the life of our dreams.
What made the whole process exceptional was the two of them together. Patty brings incredible energy, a keen eye for design, master negotiation skills and decades of experience. Kalara is right alongside every decision and is the master of implementing Patty’s design plan. She takes Patty’s vision and turns it into reality while staying on top of every detail and every deadline. They were available at all hours. Two transactions running side by side should have been chaos, and somehow it wasn’t.
Now that a few years have passed, we can honestly say the real story, and the lasting impression, has come after the move. Most agents hand you the keys, send a nice bottle of wine, and you never hear from them again. Patty and Kalara never left our lives, thank goodness, and they remain an active force for good in our family, especially in helping us develop our property. In the five years since closing, they have been involved in just about every project we’ve taken on, and across our twelve acres with two houses, there have been a LOT of projects. They’ve walked the property with us, given us names of contractors they trust and even planned specific design projects with contractors. That alone would have cost us thousands of dollars and weeks of our time, and Patty and Kalara have offered it to us as clients, with no compensation, five years after their last commission from us.
They are both incredible humans and incredible realtors. They truly care about us and our property, and their love for their work is palpable every day. You can tell right away that they’ve been doing this a long time and are very good at it, and they work harder than anyone we’ve met in this business.
